News: I didn't book any cottage for HB0 for 2011 .
I have been there 25 times operating.

It seems I will take a long break from HB0 operations.
But you might hear me from other countries in the near future.

About me

Hello! My name is Carsten-Thomas Dauer.
Tom is my nick name on the bands, it is quick in telegraphie and easy to spell and understand in phone.
Some call me "obo" like my suffix.
I was born in Holzminden on 7th June 1973.
My Ham radio carreer started when I was 15 years. I listened on the HF bands with an Sommerkamp FT-DX250. Nice rig with tubes.
I attended a 14 days course in Uelsen (near PA boarder) and received my first VHF/UHF call DG8OAR on 16.August 1989.

My QTH is in the River-Weser-Valley so not really a nice VHF DX QTH and so I practised CW to upgrade on the HF Bands.
I passed the test on 6wpm and afterwards the Call DH2AAD with permission to operate on 10,15 and 80m was issued on 16.December 1989.

I worked my first 100 DXCC on the bands and recognize somewhen that I was mostly operating in SSB and loosing skill and speed in CW.
But I needed a speed of 12wpm to upgrade for the next level to receive the all-bands-license.
So I locked up my microphone in a safe and from then on did CW only.

I passed the exam on 18.6.1990 when I have just turned 17 years.
From then on I signed as DL2OBO. The Rig then was a TS-940 and a 3el monobander for 10m plus a vertical for 15m and a vertical delta loop
fed with ladderline with an Annecke-Koppler.

With 17 years I operated from LX, 3A and HB0. I remember 1990 when my mother cruised with me through Monaco and I was keying to hams in the USA
sitting on the backseat with a TS440 and a mobile antenna,hi. Later I was in 6Y5, UV3D, W5 and OD5.

Beside Ham Radio I like sailing, photography and ride a motorbike CBR1000F (max. speed 170mph or 270km/h) and photography - see my website.

I am 6.4ft or 1,97m tall and well, some say I have gained too much weight over the last years. I think I am just too small for my weight,hi.

AND PLEASE: SIGN MY GUESTBOOK,
so I know who visited my site! tnx

This is Klaudia, my sister in law. She is studying for her HF licens, so if you hear

us on the bands, signing DN5HR (call sign for training purposes) you know who

you are talking to.

Klaudia was in Australia for a work&travel-year - see her blog
